These machines are utilized to cut materials that are affected by heat. Examples of such are those steels that may be subject to critical failures. i.e. pipe or plate. Many machine parts are also cut on the waterjet to maintain sizes and tolerances.

Water-jets are also very good for leaving a clean edge on thicker stainless steels and aluminum. Examples are machine parts requiring close fits.

Signs that require a pleasing visual finish may also be waterjet cut.
